A unique series of photographs taken at approximately monthly intervals between October 1872 and April 1874, which document the construction of the ‘Elephant tea rooms’ in Sunderland, built for Fanny’s father-in-law, the grocer William Grimshaw. They also reveal how the occupation of two adjoining premises changed during the construction work (items 69 to 76, 80 and 100 to 106).
A model for the elephants is at item 125.
